More than just music: Family comes first at Rugfest

Since its formation in 1967 Wallingford Rugby Club has prided itself on being a family-oriented club. Generations of families have represented the club over the years and still actively play across age groups. Naturally this ethos also underpins Rugfest and the festival has been curated to reflect the rugby club’s diverse membership and appeal to all the family.

For the youngest in your household there is plenty of free entertainment to keep them happy throughout the weekend. All children love arts and crafts as much as parents love good music and food, so we’ve set up stations where kids can get creative and hands-on, and the best thing of all is you don’t have to clear up the mess!

There’s also a kids’ stage with various drama workshops and opportunities to try out circus skills and play new musical instruments. The Bhangra dancing crew will also be ready to teach your kids (and you) all of their moves, so get ready to ‘change the lightbulb’ and learn some traditional Indian dance moves.

The fun doesn’t stop there and if you still need to let off some steam then bust some moves in the silent disco or seek revenge from that last family squabble in the giant Zorb balls. There will be bungee jumpers and bouncy castles too, so plenty of opportunities to expend energy and bring a smile to all.

So round up the family, pack up the bags, and see you at Rugfest!

Band info

Brit Award-nominated band The Feeling first burst onto the scene in 2006 with their debut Top 10 UK hit ‘Sewn’. The band’s debut album, Twelve Stops And Home, followed in June 2006. It was a huge success, selling 1.5 million copies worldwide (with platinum sales of over 900,000 in Britain).

Along with ‘Sewn’, the album also included the bona fide hit singles ‘Fill My Little World’, ‘Never Be Lonely’ and ‘Love It When You Call’. Accompanying airplay made them the most played act on British radio that year, receiving 97,436 spins (or 267 a day). In due course, the band won the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Songwriters of the Year.  In 2018, the band decided to play a one-off show at The Apollo Theatre, London to celebrate twelve years since their album ‘12 Stops and Home’. The show sold out in minutes, and proved to be such a joyous, triumphant occasion that the band and fans were left wanting more. The 12 Years and Home tour was soon put on sale, which again sold out, and marked the band’s triumphant return in late 2018.

But that is not all, Rugfest will also be hosting: Freak Power the greasy, illegitimate love child of Beats International and Microgroove. They recorded their first studio album in Brighton in 1993, using a combination of tunes adapted from what was intended to be two albums, the first being the Beats International follow up to Excursion on The Version and the Microgroove follow up to The Human Groove.

Supporting The Feeling is the remarkably talented GALAXY THIEF are a 4-piece indie pop band from the South coast of England who bring a fresh vibe to the pop/rock sound.  Launching as Galaxy Thief in February 2017, they gave over 40 live performances throughout the UK (including main stage at the British Grand Prix and The Invaders of the Future stage at BESTIVAL), wrote and recorded their first EP ‘Mind Games’ and released two singles ‘For A Bad Time’ and ‘Money!’, both of which have received significant radio play including BBC Introducing and Radio Caroline with interviews on a number of regional radio stations.

Also, on the bill are My Darling Clementine: MDC continue to tour in support of their incredible latest album, ‘Still Testifying’, which as described by Uncut magazine is ‘where gospel, country and southern soul happily collide… it is terrific.’ With ‘Still Testifying’ Michael Weston King and Lou Dalgleish have adopted a more soulful and gospel approach and the album, like its predecessors, has been greatly hailed in both Europe and America.
